Scientifically called the Hoya Carnosa Compacta, this species includes the Hindu Rope Hoya, Krinkle Kurl, porcelain flower and wax plant. It is a semi-succulent, perennial, vine-like species famous for its lush, waxy foliage and striking blooms. They have thick, curly green leaves which twist in the shape of cups. The plants are native to Asia and Australia. They are easy-to-care-for, slow-growing, live long and hence perfect for novice plant lovers.

What makes Hindu Rope Hoya popular is the element of beautiful and tiny white-pinkish flowers in the shape of stars. They grow in ball-shaped clusters and appear from early spring right through the summer. The flowers can last up to a few weeks and healthy plants flower abundantly.

Plant Care:

  • A fast-draining light and airy potting mix with additions of perlite, orchid bark and peat can be helpful to avoid sogginess.
  • A decent amount of warmth and bright but indirect light usually produces the best results in terms of growth and flowering
  • During the active growth period in the spring and summer, it will need more regular watering. Avoid waterlogged conditions to prevent flower drop and root rot.
  • These plants appreciate consistent and warm temperatures. Anything below 50oF can create issues.
  • A fertilizer that is high in potassium will help produce the best results in terms of flowering.
